About us

InSituMetrix is a startup project of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), dedicated to transforming underground stress measurement.

We develop breakthrough technology that — unlike any commercially available alternatives — provides direct, reliable, and comprehensive insights into underground stress states, even at depths of several kilometers.
Our innovation reduces operational risks and boosts profitability for a wide range of critical subsurface projects.

Mission & Vision

At InSituMetrix, our mission is to deliver the world's most advanced in-situ stress measurement solutions, empowering safer, smarter, and more efficient subsurface operations.

Our long-term vision is to become a global leader in underground stress characterization, extending our impact across industries including oil and gas, geothermal energy, CO₂ storage, hydrogen storage, and nuclear waste management.
We envision a future where accurate underground stress data is a standard — optimizing project performance, minimizing risks, and driving sustainable energy innovation.

Core values

At InSituMetrix, our core values stem from our mission to overcome the fundamental challenges of geo-energy projects. These principles guide our approach to innovation and execution:

  • We drive innovation to solve the critical problem of unreliable underground stress data — delivering technologies that address real-world challenges with impactful results.

  • Our technology enables proactive decisions that mitigate risks such as wellbore instability, induced seismicity, and unexpected fractures — safeguarding operations before problems arise.

  • By reducing uncertainty, we enable operators to maximize efficiency and profitability while maintaining the highest safety standards.

  • Rooted in EPFL's tradition of excellence, we aim not just to meet industry standards but to set new benchmarks for precision, reliability, and technical leadership.
